This archive documents the members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who left Wales for the United States during the nineteenth century, with a principal focus on Mid and North Wales: the pioneer families, the early missionary work, Welsh-language Church publishing, the emigration routes and ships, and the settlements they built in Utah and Idaho.
It is positioned as a Welsh family-history and migration archive first — respectful of its Church origins, and useful to descendants in Wales and the United States, genealogists, local historians, migration researchers, Welsh-language researchers, and schools and community groups.
In two languages, always
Many of the pioneers spoke only Welsh. The archive honours that: every record holds its English and Welsh content together, the language switch is always in the header, and switching keeps you on the page you were reading.
